The Virtual School, in partnership with SIPS Education, held their first joint concert event for pupils involved in the ‘Looked After Child’ project running across numerous schools in Sandwell. This is an initiative providing weekly instrumental lessons to children who are cared for by someone other than their parents.

Around 23 children took part – singing and playing a range of instruments including recorder, guitar, keyboard, cornet, flute, violin and ukulele.

The children arrived at the The Wesley Church, West Bromwich, late afternoon. They learnt a brand new ‘Christmas Samba’ piece, joined in with communal singing of ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’ and ‘Rudolph the red Nose Reindeer’ (complete with actions!) and rehearsed many impressive solo pieces. The concert had a lovely relaxed atmosphere and was a lot of fun and enjoyment throughout for staff and children. Breaktime was popular as the children got to make new friends and eat plenty of biscuits!

The concert event was well attended by friends, family, carers, staff and invited guests. All the children left with a certificate of participation and a Christmas present – which went down well!
