Professional Development in Music

As SIPS Music, part of the Black Country Music Hub, we play a key role in supporting schools to deliver high-quality music education in line with current national expectations.

Free Face to Face Sessions

Our CPD programme is free to Sandwell schools and led by experienced, practising music educators. Sessions are designed to:

  • Build teacher confidence and subject knowledge
  • Support curriculum design and progression
  • Strengthen inclusive and high-quality classroom music provision
Bespoke School Support

We recognise that not all schools have access to a music specialist. As such, we offer flexible, tailored support packages to ensure every school can deliver a strong and sustainable music curriculum.

For staff meetings or bespoke Music CPD within your school, we offer whole-staff training tailored to your priorities. Sessions can focus on key aspects of music curriculum delivery, teaching approaches and pedagogy to strengthen classroom practice.

Team Building and Well-Being

We also provide engaging, practical musical experiences to support staff wellbeing, INSET days and team-building, using inclusive and enjoyable music-making activities.

Free Face to Face CPD

The following sessions are free for all teaching staff in Sandwell school. You can register either through the links on this page or via the SIPS learning catalogue.

Developing the Whole Child

A high-quality music education in the early years of a child’s life does more than develop musical skills; it supports the development of the whole child. Through music-making, children enhance their language, spatial awareness, motor skills, non-verbal communication, social skills, and overall confidence.

This course will demonstrate how teachers can lead music making through a series of activities, such as singing simple songs, playing instruments, active listening through movement and creating- and how to meaningfully adapt these activities to link their own topics and themes.

Sing, Play, Listen, Dance...Repeat!

This course is designed to build the confidence of teachers and support staff to lead music making activities. This confidence will be developed through taking part in practical activities, replicating them in the teachers’ own school setting and then revisiting and reviewing the activities in the following CPD sessions

Developing the Skills of Musicianship

This course is aimed at helping non-specialists and specialist music teachers to provide a strong foundation in musical understanding. At the end of KS1, children are expected to have a grasp of the concepts of pitch, rhythm and pitch.

This course will model progressive series of music making activities which will develop these skills of musicianship through singing, playing, active listening and performance.
